Taking A Dip
Little Big Town may have made “pontoon” a common household word with their catchy song, but Houston Heavy Machinery has made a name for themselves in the heavy machinery pontoons and amphibious machines business here in Texas. There is a bit of difference between the Little Big Town’s pontoons and ours but there is one similarity: Floating is all we want to do, too.
Come Float with Us
Our machines are commonly referred to as swamp excavators or floating excavators. Amphibious projects include, but are not limited to, flood maintenance, waterway maintenance, building roads through wetland areas, and more. Amphibious excavators are mainly used for shallow-water sites and are not intended to be fully submerged underwater.
We Get Wet
We excavated and hauled off the silt that had been deposited in Buffalo Bayou during Hurricane Harvey. The silt deposits reduced the capacity of the bayou and contributed to the flooding of the surrounding neighborhoods. To accomplish this project given the width of the bayou and the requirement not to reduce the normal flow of water we relied on EIK amphibious excavators to crawl into the bottom of the channel and pass the material up on to the bank where it could be dewatered and hauled off. The increased efficiency of working in the water without the need for wooden mats was key to the success of the project.
